Enter your profit once and compare two columns: a standard Cyprus company, and the same company with the IP Box applied to the share of profit that qualifies.
Standard Cyprus company
The whole profit taxed at the corporate rate
Step 1
The company
Tax on the profit, paid by the company.
No IP Box relief. Every euro of profit is taxed at 15%, whatever the profit came from.
Profit after tax
€85,000Step 2
The dividend
Tax on what you take out, paid by you personally.
Net dividend in your pocket
15% in step 1, then 2.65% in step 2 — 17.3% all-in
With the IP Box
80% of qualifying IP profit deducted, the rest taxed at 15%
Step 1
The company
Tax on the profit, paid by the company.
Your estimate, not a legal rate. The 80% deduction below is fixed by law; this is not.
Profit after tax
€92,200Step 2
The dividend
Tax on what you take out, paid by you personally.
Net dividend in your pocket
7.8% in step 1, then 2.65% in step 2 — 10.2% all-in
With the IP Box you keep €7,009 more a year
€89,757 instead of €82,748, at 60% of profit qualifying.
What is Non-Dom status?
0% Special Defence Contribution on dividends, interest and rental income for up to 17 years, where a Cyprus-domiciled resident pays 5%. Most foreign nationals who move to Cyprus and spend at least 60 days a year there qualify.
Read the Non-Dom guideWhat is the IP Box?
If your profit comes from software you wrote or a patent you hold, the law deducts 80% of it and taxes only the remaining 20% at the normal 15% rate. That works out at 3% of the IP profit, before the GeSY levy you pay when you draw the dividend.
The 80% is fixed by law. How much of your profit counts as IP profit is not, and that is what the slider sets. It shrinks again if you bought the IP rather than built it. Trademarks and brand names never qualify.
What the IP Box is really worthFor illustration only, not a computation of your liability, and not a determination that any of your income qualifies for the IP Box. It assumes the whole after-tax profit is distributed to you in the same year, because GeSY is charged on the dividend when you draw it. It does not account for personal income tax, allowable deductions, or individual circumstances. Tax law is subject to change.
